Children learn and read about Saint Kitts and Nevis at Reading Festival in Taipei

Taipei, Republic of China (Taiwan) (11th December 2024)—Children and their parents crowded the Saint Kitts and Nevis Embassy’s booth to learn more about the Federation and make keepsakes featuring the national colors.

The Embassy of Saint Kitts and Nevis participated for a third year in the Taiwan Reading Festival 2024, which was held on December 7 and 8 at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall.

On day one of the two-day festival, children gathered at the booth to read books, make crafts, and engage in the colouring of pages. To teach the colours of the Saint Kitts and Nevis flag, boys and girls beaded a string in the color pattern that follows the layout of the national flag. They cheerfully made their tokens and also called their friends over to try.

Saint Kitts and Nevis’s Ambassador to Taiwan, His Excellency Donya L. Francis, believes participation in these events is key to imprinting the knowledge of Saint Kitts and Nevis on the hearts and minds of the people of Taiwan.

“These simple yet precious moments of exposure to another country can build global citizens,” stated Ambassador Francis adding, “It is heartwarming to see the children who represent the future of Taiwan learn more about Saint Kitts and Nevis and the international community as they read and engage with our volunteers and embassy staff.”

Furthermore, Ambassador Francis noted that the embassy’s involvement year after year affirms the Federation’s commitment to supporting Taiwan’s 2030 Bilingual nation goal.

A variety of books authored by nationals of Saint Kitts and Nevis were on display. The authors include Keimon Archibald-Lake, Karyrisa Kelly, Carol Ottley-Mitchell, Vanessa Webbe, Caryl Phillips, and Donya L. Francis.

Children read aloud to passers-by. They received memorabilia like coloring books, wristbands, flags, and fans.

The Taiwan Reading Festival is an annual event organized by the National Library under the guidance of the Ministry of Education. This year’s theme was “Reading Creates the Future”.
