St. Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to the UN joined UN Delegation in Washington DC for Critical Security Talks with Key Interlocutors on Haiti

(United Nations, New York, February 19, 2025) – As the crisis in Haiti heightens, the past week saw St. Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to the United Nations H. E. Dr. Mutryce Williams in Washington DC, as a member of the UN’s ECOSOC Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti (AHAGH), engaging in critical security talks with key interlocutors on behalf of the nation, region, and international community.

The mandate of the UN’s ECOSOC Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti (AHAGH), is “following closely and working together with Haitian authorities on the long-term development strategy of Haiti to promote socioeconomic recovery, reconstruction and institutional stability, with particular attention to the need to ensure coherence and sustainability in international support for Haiti, based on the long-term national development priorities of Haiti, and stressing the need to avoid overlap and duplication with respect to existing mechanisms.”

Ambassador Williams, a National Security and International Relations Specialist by training, joined the UN delegation for the two-day compact working visit to the nation’s capital to discuss the ongoing humanitarian and security crisis in Haiti. The delegation was led by Canada’s Ambassador H.E. Robert “Bob” Rae, head of the U.N.’s Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and chair of the Ad Hoc Advisory Group on Haiti.

While in Washington DC, the UN delegation engaged in talks with Ulrika Richardson, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General/Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator in Port-au-Prince Haiti, the Multinational Security Support Mission Force Commander and Support Office, and with the Country Representative, UNICEF Haiti, Geeta Narayan.

Meetings were convened with representatives of the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), the Organization of American States (OAS), the U.S. Department of State and Trump administration. The delegation also sought to engage representatives of well-known think tanks during its visit.

Ambassador Williams said, “St. Kitts and Nevis has been a staunch advocate for security and stability in Haiti, and by extension the region. Our nation has engaged in targeted efforts to assist Haiti. During St. Kitts and Nevis’ CARICOM Chairmanship we used our platform to advocate for Haiti at the UN Security Council. We also convened meetings with the Russian Ambassador to the UN H.E. Vasily Nebenzya, and former US Ambassador to the UN H.E. Linda Thomas-Greenfield in the interest of securing peace, security, and stability in Haiti and throughout the region.”

St. Kitts and Nevis’ participation in this two-day Washington DC visit underscores Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew’s commitment to the nation playing an active role in regional and international security and geopolitical affairs.
