AG Wilkin Delivers Keynote Address at UWI Caribbean Commercial Law Workshop

Panama City, Panama, July 21, 2025—Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs of St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Garth Wilkin, delivered a powerful and forward-thinking keynote address at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Caribbean Commercial Law Workshop, where he addressed scores of legal professionals from across the region on the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in strengthening justice systems.

Wilkin was specially invited by UWI’s Faculty of Law to deliver the keynote in recognition of St. Kitts and Nevis’ leadership in leveraging AI to enhance access to justice and promote public transparency. These advancements have positioned the twin-island Federation at the forefront of legal innovation and digital reform in the Caribbean.

He spotlighted VoiceIT, an AI-powered legal assistant developed by the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, which provides real-time responses to questions about national laws and continuously learns from legislative updates and ministerial procedures.

“VoiceIT is helping us reimagine justice as a service—accessible, transparent, and efficient. Legal professionals and policymakers across the Caribbean have already expressed strong interest in replicating the platform in their own jurisdictions,” said Wilkin.

He also outlined further opportunities to integrate AI into court operations, including early neutral evaluations to assist litigants before trial, data-informed sentencing tools to support judicial consistency, and automated mechanisms to resolve minor disputes. He stressed that all AI tools must be governed by ethical standards and subject to ongoing human oversight.

The workshop continues this week with regional discussions on commercial law reform and the future of digital transformation in the legal profession.
