Government of St. Kitts and Nevis Unveils Vibrant “Independence 42” Calendar, Celebrating 42 Yearsof Sovereign Progress
Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis – The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis proudly announces the launch of its
official Independence 42 Calendar of Activities, heralding a dynamic season of reflection and sustainable
growth in honour of the nation’s 42 nd anniversary of independence. Under the inspiring
theme “Perpetual Progress – A Sustainable Future in View: Independence 42,” the calendar features
over 40 events spanning sports, culture, dialogue and community spirit from August to October 2025.
The calendar opens solemnly on August 1 st with the MV Christena Disaster Memorial Service, honouring
the past and crescendos through September with flagship events like:
National Heroes Day (Sept 16): Featuring community flag-raisings and national honours.
Patriotic Day (Sept 18): A kaleidoscope of school treats, fairs, and cultural showcases.
Independence Day (Sept 19): Ceremonial parades, national awards and the unifying “Toast to
the Nation.”
Highlights also include the CPL T20 Cricket series (Aug 14–21), the “Deep Roots, Strong Nation” Tree
Planting Competition (Aug 30), the thought-provoking series “CONVERSATIONS” on food security,
tourism and public health (Aug 20, 27; Sept 3, 10), and community favourites like the National Colours
Days and the Caribbean Wellness Day Walk (Sept 13).
Ms. Viera Galloway and Dr. Marcus L. Natta, Co-Chairs of the Independence 42 Committee, embody the
spirit of the celebrations: “This milestone is more than a celebration; it’s a testament to our resilience
and shared vision,” says Ms. Galloway. “From tree-planting symbolizing our sustainable roots to
dialogues shaping our future, every event invites Kittitians and Nevisians to own our progress.”
Dr. Natta adds, “Independence 42 bridges generations—honouring heroes, empowering youth and
uniting our global family. Together, we’re not just marking history; we’re planting seeds for a thriving,
self-sufficient nation.”
The calendar extends beyond September with the 19 th Caribbean Week of Agriculture (Sept 29–Oct 3)
and culminates in the Night of Dance (Oct 26). Families, diaspora and visitors are encouraged to
participate in events like the National Service of Gratitude & Gospel Concert (Sept 14), National Fruit
Day (Sept 15) and the Brimstone Hill Independence Run (Sept 27).
