Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs pays call on Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations

United Nations, New York (13 August 2025) – In a bid to secure inter-ministerial coordination across the United Nations system Hon. Garth Wilkin paid a courtesy call on the Ambassador and Team of the Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations following his impactful meetings at the United Nations. The Attorney General was joined by his Permanent Secretary Ms. Nerissa Williams, and Crown Counsel Mrs. Liska Hutchinson-Rhyner.

During the meeting the Ambassador and her team briefed the Honourable Minister on developments at the United Nations, including new treaties and conventions that hold opportunities for the Federation. These include the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction or BBNJ Agreement, as well as the United Nations Convention Against Corruption – both key pillars for the Administration’s Good Governance Agenda (GGA), and Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA). The upcoming International Law Week, which takes place from 27-31 October 2025, was also discussed, as St. Kitts and Nevis scales up its visibility and representation across the United Nations.

H.E Dr. Mutryce Williams, Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the United Nations welcomed the Attorney General and his Team by stressing, “international jurisprudence is undergoing consequential changes and as we ensure St. Kitts and Nevis leverages opportunities embedded in geopolitical change we are pleased to count on the coordination and support of the Honourable Attorney General. His willingness to serve on key panels of the United Nations is a vote of confidence in our dynamic and forward-looking posture at the United Nations.”

Attorney General Wilkin noted that “this first visit to the Permanent Mission represents my pledge to work much more closely with my colleagues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who have done brilliant diplomatic and developmental work around the world. The United Nations is a key partner in our own efforts to secure justice reform, apply artificial intelligence equitably, and ensure compliance with our international obligations from human rights law to humanitarian law.
